Hi, Dale here. Welcome to Mi Net Zero! Thanks for taking a look! In this blog, we’ll explore the why, what, and how of net zero living.

In this post, I want to share the last of four values we will follow as we design our houses, the why behind the what of our designs.

Our fourth value is sustainability, by which we mean several things: In summary, we are committed to sustainability because, well, that’s our mission! We want to walk the talk as we build the most comprehensively sustainable single-family homes on the market.

1. As described in a prior post, the home is designed to have net zero operational emissions and net zero embodied carbon. It will also power your EVs. It is designed to be the most comprehensively net zero home on the market.
2. Products incorporated into the home are selected for low embodied carbon, energy efficiency, and where possible, recyclability:
a. Much less concrete and foam
b. Natural insulation that sequesters carbon (dense-packed cellulose currently)
c. Wood (vs vinyl)
d. Bamboo (vs vinyl)
e. Metal roof (vs asphalt shingles)
f. Solar panels that are part of the Ultra Low Carbon Solar Alliance and committed to recyclability
g. Energy Star Appliances
h. See our high-level specification here.
3. We run an electrified job site. We will use quiet battery generators and be early adopters of all-electric equipment while in construction.
4. We will run a minimal waste job site, managed to reduce waste and recycle or compost as much as possible. We will divert remaining waste from landfill to the waste-to-energy plant
5. Maintainability:
a. The house is designed to be easy to clean and maintain. (All-electric appliances need less maintenance.)
b. Heat pump and ERV filters will be easily accessible.
c. An owner’s manual is provided with maintenance schedules and literature for all appliances and energy supply/management systems.
d. Training is provided including an overview of the cell phone apps that come with the equipment and appliances.
