With a passion for net-zero living, Dale Hulst is committed to learning and creating in order to help others live sustainably. He is a Certified Phius Consultant, a licensed builder in the state of Michigan, and an associate with the GreenHome Institute. His experience includes custom home building and 30 years in engineering and business leadership.
Following his early retirement from an HVAC plant manager role in 2021, Dale began to lay the groundwork for Michigan Net Zero. He is passionate about homes with exceptional energy performance, comfort, health, water and materials use, and respect for place. Dale envisions high quality, net-zero homes on city lots. His work not only provides sustainable housing opportunities, but also draws attention to the feasibility and importance of sustainable home construction.
In his role at Michigan Net Zero, Dale connects with partners to concept, plan, and build net-zero homes. He is excited about showing the community how great net-zero living can be for both homeowners and the partners who make it possible — architects, engineers, financiers, builders, developers, skilled tradespeople, building inspectors, and more. He desires to rapidly transition the local construction industry to net zero, first in new construction, then in retrofitting capability.
“Right now, we have the opportunity to build a better world,” said Dale. “Michigan Net Zero provides a catalyzing model to help others transition to net zero design, construction, and life.”
